I’ve cancelled my Orange mobile contract

orange.gif

I’m taking some small delight in using my blog to give Orange a small bit of bad PR.

Basically, they’ve really cheesed me off by refusing to change my contract. “You’re incompatible” they say.

All I wanted to do was change the contract from a £50 one to a £30 one, as the amount of call minutes this represents is closer to my actual phone usage.

But no, phoning them up to change it, I’m told that I’m “incompatible”. I ask what this means, and they can’t tell me. I’m not satisfied and ask to speak to a manager, and I’m promised a call back.

Two weeks later and no return call, so I’ve cancelled. Sod them. They can’t be bothered to give me any form of service for £600 per year? Then I won’t give them what they want, i.e. my cash.

Right. So what next? I’m left without a phone? Not for long I hope…

Well, first off, I happen to know about a website called Quidco. It’s a rather interesting thing, basically it gives you the cash back from affiliate schemes. (Websites pay other websites to promo their deals, Quidco give it back to the consumer.)

Certain mobile phone companies (not naming them here) cash back very heavily, up to £100 for yearly contracts.

(Ever been to a middle-man phone hawking site that’s offering you an iPod if you can referrer three costumers? This is how they afford it, you’ll be earning them up to £300.)

So, that’s £100 in my pocket, plus the contract I’ve picked is half-price for 18 months, meaning I’m only paying £17 for approximately the amount of minutes I wanted to pay Orange for.

So yah-boo-sucks to Orange. And listen to your customers when they say they want to change plan!

UPDATE: I’m now sorted out with a lovely new Sony Cybershot phone. It only took me about two hours of reading to work out how to “de-brand” it. I.e. Stopping every damn button from pimping ringtones…

i have never cancelled an orange contract but i have ripped the fuckers off mainly as when i rang up to ask a question some slumdog millionaire answered the phone and told me to speak more clearly then they sent round some collection agency guy that i had to goto the trouble of headbutting

  2. Worst network(Orange) says:

Orange sucks, rubbish network company, shitty customer service and weak signals. doesnt give you peace of mind and even not letting your change your mobile phone. they say one thing but acually they do everything the other way round. fuck them

  3. Michelle says:

I hate Orange! We had an old mobile phone stolen and did not know it until we got a bill through the door for £1500.00 to Pakistan and asia. These calls were run up over 3 days until eventually Orange Fraud Dept woke up and cut off the phone.
Orange would not be shifted and said we had to pay even though it was obvious it was not us that made the calls. This was 6 years ago. They have sold our debt on to some ASS HOLES called Arrow Global. And we have just been served with a Statutory Demand to bankrupt us. They are a disgusting company and i wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire.

  4. Neil Angry Bastard says:

I hate Orange too. They changed my pay as you go account charges without notice from 25p per min for the first 3min & 5p thereafter to 35p flat rate. I only noticed when £25 lasted no time at all. As all companies they are your best friend while they are climbing to the top & then turn into absolute shits. Iv’e now changed to ASDA Mobile that charge only 8p per minute. Orange robbing bastards can stick their phones up their arses. Top wankers!!!!

  5. Gary says:

I’m in an 18 month contract and recently moved house. I can’t use my mobile or mobile broadband from from here due to v. poor/no signal. Twice tried to pay my bill but got cut off mid way thru call to orange. Four times cut off whilst speaking to tech support (again due to poor signal). They say I have no choice and this is not a reason they would accept for me cancelling my contract early! I CAN NOT USE THEIR SERVICE MUST BUT MUST CONTINUE TO PAY FOR IT !? What the ****???

  6. enceladus says:

I’m happy to add my twopennoth to some bad PR for Orange.
I cancelled my contract with them a couple of years ago because of ‘couldn’t give a shit’ service.

  7. paul says:

i just cancelled my contract after ten years, and have had mostly problems with them last few years , too many to mention , but today was last straw when phoned them and he hung up , then heard them laughing in background telling other guy to hang up too , orange are shit , they dont have customers services , i cant find this on the phone or on there shitty net work ,
they need too be put on watch dog , shown up for the shit company of frauds they are..
    a pissed off ex customer

  8. FUCKEN WORLD BEST REPER ORANGE MOBILE CONTRACT.RUBBUSH CONTRACT.

  9. Steve says:

They screw kids who are attracted by their “unlimited texts” deal. Teenage kids send much more than 3000 text per month and then pay extortionately for those over 3000.
How can they call it unlimited? if it is limited to 3000 then they should say so not call it “unlimited”.
They also made it very difficult to stop the contract and continued to charge for excess texts two months after shutting it down.
    Ovoid Orange

  10. Anonymous says:

Guys, if you have a problem with Orange like I did. I would advise you to follow their complaints procedure. First of all as painful as it can be you have to talk to one of their reps, if you’re not happy with what they tell you, ask if not demand to speak to their “Team Manager”. If you get no joy from their “Team Manager”, you can request to speak with an “Operations Mangaer” who if you’re not happy with what he tells you will tell you your options.

Here’s where it get’s interesting, they can refer you to their “Arbitrator”, a bit like the unions when they’re in dispute with their employer. The “Arbitrator” Orange use is CISAS, which is very well recognised by Ofcom & Trading Standards.

If CISAS rule in your favour, Orange have to do what they tell them.

Been there, seen it, done it, I won ! Ha Ha Ha !

  11. chris says:

The cheeky twats charged me for internet i didnt even use.I told them about it and they charged me for a futher 3 months robbing cunts.

  12. kelly says:

I am 6 months into an 18 mth orange contract.
To start with i notified orange of my signal problems within my 30 day cancellation period but they refused to cancel on that basis. I then had to have my faulty phone replaced 4 times because orange refused to allow me a different phone, eventually they decided they would offer me an alternative but i had no choice in which phone they would send me. i hate my new phone and am now stuck paying a company i cant stand and paying to use a phone i dont even want and would never of chosen myself!

  13. nini says:

im jus tryin to cancel my contract at the mo n ive rang 3 or 4 times n all i get is an “i cant be arsed attitude” im so sick of it they wont put my call plan down to a lower price as i am not usin anywer near my inclusive allowance but ther havin none of it…now thinkin of jus cancellin direct debit but dnt wanna get into debt or owt thru it :( any ideas

  14. snatchweevil says:

Oh thank you all for your voices of trueth, I have just had it for the last time with Orange and like so many of you say the list of crap lies, bad service and out right rudeness is just unacceptable.
I have just been reduced to tears by an Indian customer services operative, the are highly discrimative towards people with disabilities and even though promised when contacts are made for reasonable adjustment to accomadate these diffculties, they conviently have no record of this or ‘it’s not our policy to do that’. I hung up after saying that if I had been racist to him down the phone then they could have me in court, but because the are discrimating there service to me because of my declaired disability, I have to just put up with it until the contracts run out.
But apartly it is all due to get better ‘where I live soon’, of course it is I thought, the contract will end and I shall leave Orange and their torent of crap behind me. I refused to be bullied by a service provider that I have to pay for. Orange you are shamed

DO NOT TRUST ORANGE FOR A SINGLE THING, NOTHING THEY SAY THEY WILL EVER COME THROUGH ON, perhaps they should be the nexted government!

  15. Kathy K says:

Its a shame you guys cannot be more eloquent in your comments regarding companys. I dare say Orange and other companys are happy to lose customers who don’t take the time to read terms and conditions of contracts they enter into.
Having been an Orange customer for some years I have found orange customer services to be helpful and accomodating, so maybe your attemps to deal with customer services may have been thwarted by bad manners and ignorance.

    • Rachael B says:

Kathy K – delighted to hear you have had only positive experiences with Orange.
I have unfortunately had a very disappointing experience with Orange today and I was certainly not bad mannered, neither am I ignorant. It would appear that Orange have no interest in trying to work with loyal customers to resolve problems or reach mutually beneficial solutions. I have no desire to leave Orange or change my mobile phone number however their appalling attitude and extortionate charges fro making an amendment to my contract will leave me with no option.

Given your comments and attitude I can only assume that perhaps you work for Orange or perhaps train their appalling customer service staff.

    • Carol H says:

Kathy, so pleased you have had such a good deal from Orange and until April of this year, my views would have echoed your own. However, in April their mast failed in my area causing me to have non existent coverage, where previously it had been perfect. I was at this point 10 months into an 18 month contract. I called Orange to be fobbed off telling me that the work would be completed in a week, then next call it was two weeks, and the next… well, you get the picture.

Two weeks ago (FOUR months after the mast failed) I called again to be told that it had been DECOMMISSIONED and that my area now had no coverage and was not going to have in future. I asked if I could cancel my contract and was told I would have to buy my way out… Clearly, if I had wanted out of my contract because of my fault, the contract would have been broken and I would have been happy to do this. However, THEY broke the contract and yet it is still working in their favour!

After 14 years, I have lost all faith in Orange. I even e mailed the Chef Exec and his reply? I had broken protocol and should return to Customer Services…. who tell me there is nothing they can do… Like Rachael B, I have always been polite and pleasant, but the Customer Services received have been dreadful frankly.

I will put up with no home coverage for the next four months and am then moving to Vodafone…

    • simon says:

Clearly you work for them… given, your experience, appears impossible.

Terms and Conditions mean nothing, when the service you are provided with is substandard, which Orange is.

As for dealing with the Idiots in Customer Services, it’s really difficult not to be rude with the uneducated fools that have been employed.

  16. Tom says:

Does any one know how i can cancel my orange contract? I see the person who wrote this Blog has done exactly that, BUT HOW?

    Thanks in advance!

  17. dave born says:

Got upgraded to blackberry curve, then paid extra £5 a month for mobile internet. Havent been able to use phone in the house or get internet anywhere. Rang them now for 3 days, explaining every time to someone different, only to be told to pull the battery out!!! After pulling the battery and listening to their bullshit of “we will call you back before 10pm” each time, i am at the end of my tether. Orange services are rude people who just fob you off in all areas. Told them i wanted to cancel contract as they are not supplying an adequate service, all i get is flanel !!! Please avoid Orange.

  18. abused007 says:

I have a 24 month contract with these \@$5^%. Im only 6 months into it & my bills are like {100 a time & paying for extras that i did’nt use? im in debt with em now, & on benefits due to disability. I asked for them for us to come to an agreement to pay the outstanding bill & they said that i would’nt be able to use my phone until the debt has been cleared, but i’ll still have to pay the monthly bill?? Dont like their customer services i’ve had them laugh down the phone at me also. GGRR.

  19. Stacy K says:

Go Rachael! I agree with you entirely. Orange are hopeless, useless, rude and arrogant fraudsters. I too have had enough of their poor lack of service not to mention crap customer service. I have recently instructed solicitors as I shall be cancelling my contract. I need Orange just about as much as I need a hole in the head. With any luck maybe they’ll go bankrupt.

  20. charlie woods says:

i have bin sent a replacement of a phone by orange and whick i have to say i hate and cant use it they wont let me change it please help i need a different phone!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. richard earl says:

  22. HELEN hates orange says:

orange have no customer care at all although the phone is in my name as with many mothers it is actualy my daughters, she put the wrong code in and now after many calls to a robots voice oh and two to what i think should have been human. i have a new sim card yippie! i thought. [how stupid of me]
well after i did all i was told to, the phone still needs a lock number so i still have no phone and a daughter that is going on and on and on. again i call the robots i again wait for ever. i again talk to what is ment to be human only to discover he dont know what to do and cant help me. well what do i do i’m stuck in this contract for another 18 months that i pay for but cannot use and orange will not help me i will never ever go orange again they should have called themselves RED because that is what they make me see

  23. mick thornley says:

well they are the most unhelpful bunch on knobs in the world i say to them that i can not get a signal at home and they say well you use your minutes well the knob bandits “i use my phone at work where i do get a siganal it is a mobile” to be greeted with “we can not guarantee to get a signal in the home” no shit i dont i have bangged my head so much i may take them to court for self abuse due to the £4.99 minimum wage responses i get from them when i ring what more can i do !!!!!!!!!!

    • mick thornley says:

some people on here obviously work for orange or a mobile subsidary of orange in that case f off and go on a site where you are apprieciated like http://www.ithink i am god and like to rip off honest people.com

  24. Andrew says:

    Keep spreading the word!

With any luck enough people will get the idea and anyone with more than two brain cells in their head will not touch this network with a barge-pole. Loss of business for Orange, they go bust, no more rubbish Orange network and problem solved.

In theory this should work but unfortunately companies like this continue to get away with making money by producing crap and offering crap service. When will people learn and start using consumer pressure to force companies to provide quality goods and services?

  25. Mike says:

I hate orange so much. My signal is so piss poor I can’t even call customer support!

  26. Mew S says:

I too hate orange. I just got myself an 18 month-contract from the shop. I checked the coverage at my area, they said it was excellent, I don’t really call out much but nearly everytime I used the call was dropped. I’m paying £35 a month for the device and service that is not up to par. I tried to return the phone and cancel my contract as I told by customer service it was possible, when I went to the shop within my 14 days cooling period I thought I had. I was badly treated by the shop assistance. I phoned orange back for help and i got transferred 13 times got cut of 3 times in the period of an hour. Different advisors told me different things. I am sick and tired of this and I am stuck with them for 18 months! I wrote to executive office regarding my recent issue. I doubt they will reply this time because it is about me cancelling my contract. I should not have moved from o2.

  27. Loui says:

Reading all This , I Know ive made a mistake , had a phone contract with them been on it for about 12months now ,is there anything at all i can do ? , just got a paymnet bill come threw and they are telling me ive got to pay £112… Ive checked what ive used on my phone and internet and its nothing so my bill should only be £75 not £112 , what should i do ? , plus after 1 day is there a way of canceling the contract because of information not givin to the customer? (i.e- I Wasn’t stated that my allowance for the internet would be 6 hours or less a month)

  28. Libby says:

how do you cancel with them??????

    because i hate it!

  29. orange 24 month laptop contract. it broke down 10 months into the contract.orange guarantee stated it was a 12 month guarantee, orange didnt want to know,i was told 3 times at the local orange shop that i had to return it to the supplier myself. i contacted the manufacturer who arranged for my laptop to be collected from my house,2 weeks later i received a letter from them they wanted £ 150 to repair the laptop or £145 to return it to me not repaired and that it was out of its guarantee period.i contacted orange who didnt reply to my letter. i paid the £145 to get my laptop repaired . on its return i couldnt use it because it wasnt set up. i yet again had to pay a local computer shop to re-set it so i could use it. to my dismay orange were working on there system my computer went down, and yet again i contacted orange, yes once again i got the same mumbo-jumbo. that was 3 months ago its lieing in its box. wont work at all ive stupidly kept up the £30 monthly payments, ive got another 6 months to pay, i beleive orange have broken the contract. im now on the sick last 6 months my employer has put me on half pay. i know ill soon loose my job. what can i do.

  30. Brendan says:

Had Orange network down almost every week and sometimes for 3 or 4 days, I have a part time taxi business and every time it goes down I have to travel five miles in order to get a signal and to read all messages, As I am writing I have lost four jobs because of not responding to clients in time!! Rang Orange and they said three masts are down, AGAIN?!!! Could of been vandalised they said! Oh yea so bored teenagers have gone out in terrential rain to masts miles apart to climb up and damage them all at the same time?, yea right!! I now have to once again after writing this have to go five miles to pick up messages for the fourth time today! This will go on until Mon I guess or until probably Tuesday and I am paying £70 per month, what a shit service!! Never again Orange, its goodbye after contract!!

  31. Martin says:

I have been with orange for years but the last 6 months I have noticed that my coverage is not what it used to be and the last 3 months I have had no data coverage at all. Its not the phone as I tested it with another sim and on VF it worked perfectly inside with an excellent data reception (3G). I will now be seeking to void my contract due to lack of the service that I am paying for.

I have made a complaint with ofcom too and I ask everyone to do the same, call everyone and e-mail watchdog as well as trading standards as they are making claims about coverage that done exist in the real world. Loads of people have gone for their data package that does not work so they are getting money for nothing.

I would just like to finish off by saying Orange you are SHITE and I will be taking my money elsewhere

  32. katie says:

I have also had a delightful experience today. I wanted to upgrade but orange want 3 times as much as all other network providers for the phone that I want. First guy I spoke to couldnt care less and was just desperate to end the call, he was useless. Just spoke to another girl though and she was great, she wasnt able to help me because of Orange’s crappy customer un-friendly policies, but she was able to take the time to explain why, to tell we when and how I could cancel my contract and how to keep my number! The only downside is that I have to wait till March to cancel or pay to get out…. guess i’m stuck with them till march :(

  33. steve says:

    Hi
Please may i give some advise I some 5 years ago took two contract phones out one for my then wife and one for my daughter not a problem Untill four years ago my wife desided that the grass was greener elsewhere and asked me to leave . No more to do with the phones to tell the truth with everything else i had to pay did’nt even think about them untill i received a letter at my new address fromm a cllections agency wanting a teriffic amount of money the letter went in the bin and that was the end of that , in the end i paid after giving in to the presure of constant letters and demands . Thinking this is now in the past i recently went for credit as have good job to my best knowledge had a good credit history but on doing so was refused . Signing up to a credit file site i see i have a great credit history except for two great big black d’s meaning default . So this is where i can add my bit of swear talk for the next three years im FUCKED . Comunications have a big part to play on a credit file dont go getting a D sort it out

  34. katie hates orange too says:

    Orange are crap.
Signal – crap, customer services – crap, orange care – crap, orange upgrades – crap, orange shops – crap. These slimy twats are arrogant assholes who do not give a shit about any of their customers. Waste of time. They have made me mad so many times over the past 18 months the time has come for me to stick my two fingers up at them and move back to vodafone. IF ANYONE IS CONSIDERING TAKING OUT AN ORANGE PHONE PLEASE RECONSIDER, THESE PEOPLE ARE BRAINLESS ZOMBIES WHO ONLY GIVE A SHIT ABOUT RECEIVING THEIR NEXT PAYCHEQUE. YOU ARE OF NO IMPORTANCE TO THEM WHATSOEVER. ROBBING ASSHOLES!

  35. simon says:

I completely agree, with most on here… Honestly, I had no idea about incompetence, bad reception, bad and slow Mobile internet….

Yes, I was stupid enough to move from Vodafone.

Please Please, DON’T take out a contract with Orange, it’s honestly the worst mistake I have made..

Saying that, I was warned by a few people, and didn’t listen! So, my fault really….

Their customer service, is next to Useless, they have no idea what they are talking about, and which ever department you talk to, contradicts each other…

I am considering court action, under trading standards, it’s not fit for purpose.

Thinking of Orange? DON’T DO IT!

  36. Neil says:

i hate all networks there all the same i was on o2 and had been since they were btcellnet. They wouldnt help me get the phne changd after weeks of trying so swerved them and if they think they getn a single pound outta me they can fink again. 37. Neil says:

And as for 24mnth contracts wtf its a phone why should you b tied like dat as when you take a phne out at that tIME you may wel be able to afford it at the time but it dnt mean to say in 12months ya can anything can happen especially with the climate today so why should yahave to be in such a long contract jus to be to have the phne ya like coz lets face it not all phnes ya cn get on payngo

  38. Orangesucks says:

I was so enraged by the way that Orange customer service treated me 2 years ago that I decided to blog the whole thing on http://www.orangesucks.com. I’d been with them for about 14 years and then treated like I was a complete idiot and a liar. If they haven’t done so already then Orange need to sort themselves out. Whatever happened to customer service, anyway??? It seems to be a thing of the past. My advice – as soon as a company treats you badly, change them. It’s the only way these companies will learn if people start moving on mass.
Great site by the way Rob!

    Need Help!!!!!!!!!!

I have had my contract for 19months now and when i purchased the 24mth contract i tried to take my handset back after finding out i had either a 7 or 14 day cooling off period yet the Orange shop would not accept my phone back at all. I need to get out of my contract urgently as it is costing me way too much as i have recently been made redundant. My contract does not state the cost of call charges. Is there any way i can cancel my contract early without paying my way out of it.

    Kind Regards

    Stacey

  40. alexander says:

Well how about this for stupidity. bee with orange for years have 11 magic numbers to prove. bought a new phone two months before contract expired during this time built up loyalty bonus. was paying £8·44 a month for 200 mins + 300 text, more than i needed but i was happy. THEN had the new phone and bought 4 new phone and contracts for my wife and kids so even more loyal. so what did orange do, whith out my knowledge took my loyalty bouns off me, so i am now paying, for my part of the contract, £25 quid. But did not notice (due to my computer going on the blink for a couple of mounths and the bill being paid by DD and family going on) wheni questioned then they said , in so many words, TOUGH! S what it means is that stay loyal, bring more business and we will take your loyaity bouns off you and charge you more. ORANGE SUCKS.

I can only speak from my own experience but I have not had any problems with orange, phone is fine, service has been fine and signal fine!!!
